The English Center Vision For 2015-16

The first step towards success in American language and life

The English Center (TEC) has built its reputation on the delivery of intensive, high caliber English language programs coupled with job training and placement for adult students. While our students have changed dramatically over our almost 40 year history, the program focus has remained the same - - to provide language training that enables graduates to be completely literate in written and spoken English, opening doors for them to succeed in America.

In our tradition of providing transformative learning experiences for adults, we are excited to announce that The English Center has expanded to include more vocational skills and training for a wider array of adult students through our Corporate Training for Industry (CTI). We have customized programs to teach Word, Excel and Quickbooks to business clients such as hospital workers and housing management administrators; client management software to legal office aides and administrators; business writing and communicative competence to middle managers; and workplace skills to the unemployed.

Our former Executive Director, Dr. John Tang, is establishing strategic partnerships and creating initiatives that will provide transformative learning opportunities for adults in the East Bay. One strategic partnership is with the Stride Center (SC) to provide limited English proficiency students both Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) training and computer tech support training. With enhanced vocational skills, the TEC/SC partnership will dramatically improve the earning potential of program participants. Moreover, this program will provide opportunities for students to matriculate into two-year and four-year college programs, which will further enhance their ability to have a long and prosperous career.

Our Pittsburg location offers the same high quality Career Readiness Programs in Office and Information Technology skills. It also houses Delta Employment Solutions - The goal of DES is to provide training and employment opportunities to East Contra Costa County immigrant and refugee families including referred clients of the Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services Department’s (EHSD) Welfare to Work Program.
